An OBS experience

So, here's the end of the 5 day camp (07/05 - 11/05) at Outward Bound Singapore, what Watch Hillary will call "a shitty experience". (literally)

Day 1
Collected our rations - 2 entire cartons of food!
We learnt how to paddle a TRI-YAK (a kayak with 3 paddlers). It was really fun! We paddled to some kelongs and practised capsize drill. It was so fun that 1 of the groups did it on purpose in the open sea.
Dinner - Soggy rice, sausages and preserved peanuts, with traces of poisonous solid fuel.
Sure had fun pitching tent and eating in the dark!

Day 2
RE-Learnt belaying. It was getting funny that Andy (instructor) has to be eating everytime we see him. After that, we packed our XX kg harversack and got ready to set off. Played a guai lan game in which most preferred stoning in the blaring sun.
Lunch - Biscuits, biscuits and MORE biscuits.
Went on to CAMP 1 where we tried the INVERSED TOWER. Almost fell off the swinging rope or whatever they call it. It was supposed to be a team effort, but I landed up soloing when my partner gave up halfway. Must be a feather in the cap for Chia Ling and Andre who set the record!
Dinner - HEAVENLY CATERED FOOD!!!
Supper - RED BEAN SOUP AND GREEN BEAN SOUP
Enjoyed a nice spray of Pricky Heat, along with the wonderful sea breeze in the tent!

Day 3
Time to go!
We set off for another area in a ROWBOAT. Yup, the one slaves rowed in. YES, we EXPECTED THE UNEXPECTED! We did not know how to row the tricky rowboat and got pushed about by the choppy waves. Honestly, we were considered the best among the groups in Watch Hillary and Nila Utama, since we only got pushed in the ferry searoute.
There's 1 rowboat which experienced HELL! They got pushed in the TANKER sea route! What made it worse was a HUGE tanker appeared in the distance. I think they must have been scared out of their wits. Either the trainer was unaware or what. They got flung about for about a few minutes and the TANKER was just about 100 metres from them. A LOUD BLARING HORNING SOUND! Followed by the strieks of our emergency whistle - the one you see in Titanic. Luckily for them, they got saved by the instructors' speedboat in time!
We got a rowing lesson following a desperate radio to SUPERMARIO (course director).
So we set off for our destination. We spotted rain in the distance, around the Pasir Ris region but continued. When we were about to reached, there came thunderstorm. I thought they will pull us back to CAMP 1 and forget about the expedition. Who knows we continued to land in the storm and dragged our dirty, sandy, wet, soaked, damp, heavy, muddy, atrocious, despicable, idiotic ... bag to a canopy which was no help at all o.O. We changed into our dry clothes in the OPEN and spammed Pricky Heat Power till the ground is WHITE. Carrying our heavy haversacks and tents we set off for SHOPPING CENTRE, which is NO MORE THAN A DERELICT LAND CLEARING.
Cooked MAGGY MEE in the DARK. Lucky I didn't ate a lot... those who ate (7 out of 9++) got to use the SHIT DIGGER ENTRENCHER and DO IT answer nature's call behind some trees along the beach. So we camped for the night. We were splitted into shifts to feed the mosquitoes do sentry duty for a 30 minutes to 40 minutes period.

Day 4
About 5+, someone from my tent cried out that he needs to poo. He was unaware that there are people at the BOTTOM (BEACH) holding torches and guiding people to the SPOTS. So he was crying for people to accompany him. Obviously, everyone's torches are UTILISED by people doing duties. A cry, a shriek, followed by an Andy groping his way out to see what happened.

In the morning, we moved our bags into the instructors' SPEED BOAT and carried our TRI-YAKS into the water. We paddled past CAMP 1 and CAMP 2, around Pulau Ketam and back to CAMP 2. That is about 10 kilometres. Because of lags and rest and being pushed back by the waves, we took about 5 hours -.-
Many became black were sunburned. Rashes took its toll. Had fun smacking people's back and watching them coil up in AGONY. Had a bathe and a wonderful dinner of OVERTINE AND MILO POWDER.
Not forgetting some IN A CIRCLE GATHERING with Andy. We kept laughing and laughing throughout when we were told to describe our experience. Andy simply couldn't help laughing as well. YUP, EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED - usually they will CONSOLE the victim, now they are laughing at them, helplessly.

Day 5
A day with mixed feelings. Want to go home, but simply don't feel like leaving the place. It was all too fun!
So I shall not talk about this very ironic day with ambivalence.
